The Xbox 360 is a game console produced by Microsoft and developed by a partnership of IBM, ATI, Samsung and SiS. The Xbox Live service allows players to compete online and download arcade games, trailers, TV shows, music videos and rented movies. The Xbox 360 is the successor to the Xbox and competes with Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii, both seventh-generation game consoles. It is the first console to be launched simultaneously in the three main regions of the world (United States, Europe and Japan) and to support wireless controllers from the beginning.
The Xbox 360 was officially unveiled on MTV on May 12, 2005, with a detailed introduction and game information at E3. The device sold out instantly (except in Japan) during its launch, with 57 million units sold worldwide by December 2011.
