The Xbox 360 is a video game console produced by Microsoft and developed by a collaboration of IBM, ATI, Samsung and SiS. The Xbox Live service allows players to play against each other online and download arcade games, trailers, TV shows, music videos and rented movies. The Xbox 360 is the successor to the Xbox and competes with Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii, both seventh-generation consoles. It is the first console to be launched simultaneously in the three major regions of the world (United States, Europe and Japan) that supports wireless controllers from the start.
The Xbox 360 was officially unveiled on MTV on May 12, 2005, with a detailed introduction and game information at E3. The device sold out instantly during its introduction (except in Japan) and 57 million units had already been sold worldwide by December 2011.
