The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES), called Super Famicom in Japan, is the second (not counting the Game Boys) in a successful series of Nintendo-released video game consoles. It came out in 1991. It was a 16-bit game console. Striking were the controllers, which were equipped with shoulder buttons for the first time. These are buttons on the top of the controller, which you can operate with your index finger.
The Super Nintendo was Nintendo's second video game console. The first game console was the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and was not a great success everywhere. The Super Nintendo, however, became a success everywhere. Despite its late development compared to competing 16-bit consoles, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System became the best-selling console of the 16-bit era.
