The Nintendo DS (NDS) is a portable game console from the Japanese company Nintendo. The game console was later succeeded by the Nintendo DS Lite. Although the Nintendo DS came out earlier than the Game Boy Micro, it can still be seen as a newer generation game console because of the technology used.
The Nintendo DS was first announced as a separate product group, alongside Nintendo's console GameCube and its other (portable) game consoles, the Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Advance SP. This concept brings Nintendo under the heading "three pillars" (three pillars). Each of the devices listed above belongs under its own pillar. In February 2006, a redesigned version of the DS was released, the Nintendo DS Lite.
