Dreamcast is a video game console produced by Sega. It was released on November 27, 1998 in Japan, September 9, 1999 in the United States, and October 14, 1999 in Europe.
The Dreamcast was the first in the sixth generation of game consoles, predating PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube, and is to date their last produced game console for the home market. It was also one of the first consoles in 1998 to allow online play through the services SegaNet (United States) and Dream Arena (Europe) thanks to a built-in modem. 22 games supported SegaNet, including Quake III Arena and Phantasy Star Online.
Production finally stopped on March 31, 2001 due to disappointing sales. 10.6 million Dreamcast copies have been sold worldwide.
